Between March and September of 2004 Manhattan undertook a complete overhaul of their range of units specific to disabled users and their kitchens. A new range was developed with the help of customers, and it was re-branded ‘Enable, furniture for multiple users’.

Inclusively designed accessible kitchens: we believe it is the first range of its kind to equally meet the needs of house builders, housing associations and end users. Enable achieved FIRA Gold Certification for Special Needs Kitchen Furniture in 2011.

Why enable?

Because it means: ‘to make something possible’ or ‘ to provide somebody with the resources, authority or the opportunity to do something’.

Enable offers you flexible height cupboards; internal storage systems for added functionality; multi hole brackets allowing simple worktop level adjustment; internal cupboard/drawer lighting for the visually impaired. enable offers you accessible kitchens to meet all your needs. The Manhattan enable range is the result of a consolidated research and development programme carried out by our product development team in West Sussex. Our research showed that kitchens designed for optimum accessability should:

  • Offer a wide range of choice, accommodating the design philosophy adopted in standard kitchen ranges;
  • Give a high degree of flexibility, ensuring the physical needs of different users are catered for equally;
  • Have excellent functionality, without sacrificing style;
  • Meet the specified standards for special needs users.
