2024 was another great year on our carbon reduction journey, from the emissions that we have direct control over, we achieved a 58% reduction against our 2018 base line year and a 29% reduction vs 2023. These CO2 emissions are referred to as Scope 1 & 2 and are as a direct result of our business activities, such as the use company vehicles and the electrical energy that we buy.

This was also the first year that we have calculated our full Scope 3 emissions, these are all other indirect emissions that occur in our value chain. This includes amongst others, emissions from suppliers, the use of our product, disposal of waste, business travel and the emissions from travelling to and from work, it even includes working from home! The total amount of associated scope 3 CO2 was 12,000 tonnes, which is 98% of all our combined CO2 for the year.

There were two areas that really stood out, 50% of the scope 3 emissions were from the purchase of the materials and services that we need to manufacture and supply our kitchens to our customers, a further 45% was from the use of the appliances and lighting that we supply with our kitchen furniture. Now that we have some visibility, we can begin to focus our attention on the areas which will bring the biggest benefit in terms of emissions reduction, the next steps will include engaging with our suppliers and finding out what their carbon reduction plans are.
